Negated Sound
Sound Analysis synthesis method
Negated sound is an experimental analysis-synthesis method that creates conceptually negated versions of sounds. The method works by computing a long-term spectral average of an entire recording, a droning “ground” that contains all the frequencies present over the full duration, and then subtracting the current sound from this ground, frame by frame. The result is an inverted sonic relationship: when sound is present in the original, it becomes quiet in the negated version; during silences in the original, the full spectral ground is heard.
